To prevent baby wriggling under the covers, use a feet to-foot-wedge, or place baby’s feet at the foot of the cot and make up the bed so that the covers reach no higher than the shoulders. Tuck in the covers so that they cannot slip over baby’s head.
Ensure that you use fitted sheets that will not come lose and entangled with wriggling baby. Stay safe fitted sheets have a velcro band which holds sheet securely in place.
Use a New ventilated mattress for each new baby. The ventilation holes allow for air to pass through keeping baby cool and comfortable. Also reduces that risk of suffocation
Avoid PVC coverings on mattresses.
IF YOUR BABY IS UNWELL, SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE PROMPTLY
Make sure baby drinks plenty of fluids and is not too HOT !!
Maintain good prenatal care for you and your unborn baby
Take your baby to all scheduled well baby clinics and follow immunization schedules.
Breastfeeding has been shown to build a baby’s immunity against illness and infections.
If baby has a fever, use fewer blankets/clothing and ensure that baby drinks plenty of fluids !!
If baby is ill, do not hesitate to seek professional advice.
